Thought I would try posting a couple of pics of my 3.7 , Just to see if it would work, - I hav'nt seen any other photos posted on the forum, so thought I would give it a try.
The gun was built in Canada by GENELCO in 1943.

There is a strong possibility that this 3.7 in AA gun was manufactured in the General Electric factory in Peterborough, Ontario. I forwarded your post (URL) to the Peterborough Examiner newspaper to see what they may have on file. There may be some old employees still around who built these guns.

Thanks for that, it will be interesting to see if there is any feedback. The gun serial number is 18347, Don't know if any manufacturers records still exist, I havn't tried contacting GEC to find out.

Can someone tell me why the 3.7 A.A. gun was never used like the German 88mm ie as an anti tank gun. The gun must have had much more clout than the 88. Barrie Walker

The mobile 3.7 in AA gun was used extensively in the field gun role in WW II. particularly in NW Europe after the threat from high flying bomber attacks by the Luftwaffe had diminished to a  minimum.  Armoured piercing shells would have been required for an exclusive anti tank role. However, the high muzzle velocity would have made a direct hit pretty lethal ,even without armoured piercing ammunition.  In the unofficial history  of the 2nd Canadian HAA Regt,  RCA,(equipped with 3.7in AA mobile AA guns) in NW Europe ,during one period the Regt fired a total of 56959 rounds of which only 406 were in the AA role.
