Just stumbled across this forum by chance and immediately decided to join it and make my first posting.

The reason I was searching on the net about anti-aircraft sites in the first instance is because I recently discovered the remains of what I believe to be a light anti-aircraft gun - probably in or close to the place it was originally positioned. However the remains of the gun are such that combined with my lack of knowledge about AA gun details, I am not sure exactly what type it is. I can see that it is a light AA gun and my guess is that it is a Bofors 40mm but can anyone advise me as to what is the best way of trying to identify the gun type from the rusting remains I have found. I am sorry but I would rather not disclose the location of the find until I can verify what I have found.

perhaps you could attach a couple of photos of the barrel, breech etc. Is it mounted on a 4-wheel carriage? can you measure the size of the barrel bore? Is it top magazine fed? Handles to elevate and traverse.....

This is only based on the working of my brain, and I have no evidence to back it up, but is it possible that the 3.7inch gun arrived at the site on its mobile mounting, but this wasn't required for the static mounting, so it was put to one side until it became unusable, and when the site was abandoned, just left behind.
